The Hunt is On!
I look forward to hearing back...

Over the past month I've been emailing accounting firms in hopes of finding an internship. Also known as those things that pay for rent, food, and my World of Warcraft addiction. Obviously, being in Germany complicates this situation. I sent out resumes and emails to contacts found on websites and provided by my professor. Here's what I've got so far.Talbot, Korvola, & Warwick: This is my first choice. I emailed a contact given to me by John Suroviak (see quote), that email got forwarded, and I finally got a response. They seemed impressed with my choice to study abroad. They also talked to John at the Oregon Society of CPAs showcase. John said they seemed interested and mentioned holding an interview. Sadly, I haven't heard anything back yet.
UPDATE: I never heard anything from them, and then I finally got an email from home saying that I received a letter that they didn't have any oportunities
Schwindt & Company: Haven't heard anything back from them at all. They aren't very impressive so I'm not that worried.
Geffen Meshler: Sent them an email, haven't gotten a response. They're alright, but nothing special.
Hoffman, Stewart, & Schmidt: Another one I haven't heard anything back from.
Isler Northwest: Received message that my information was being forwarded on to the appropriate people, haven't heard anything past that.
UPDATE: I had a phone interview with the head of their tax department. She was a cheerful little girl that I'm afraid could end up driving me insane. I have an interview for when I return in December.
Maginnis & Carey: I got an email requesting permission to talk to John, which of course I gave them. They talked to him, apparently he spoke highly of me, and they've requested an interview! I'm incredibly excited. The last email I got was asking if I was back in December, so I am wondering if they are just going to hold off until then. Still, I GOT AN INTERVIEW! This firm is right up there with TKW in attractiveness.
I just got this message from the partner: "OK. We will arrange to talk with you byphone soon-stay tuned. Then we will want to meet with you." Complete with typo. I like it though, only a friendly guy who I imagine to be somewhat easy going is going to say "stay tuned" in an email I think. *EXCITED*
I was starting to get a little worried, because my list has a lot less options on it at this point. But at least two of them have a good potential of an amazing outcome. I'm getting really excited about getting an internship and an apartment (another post in the future), I can't wait for it all to happen.
One last thought, what kind of gift do I get for the professor who's taught me my future job, developed my interest in the business world, gave me the basis for my website, provided me with contacts to enter the accounting world, and put in a good word when contacted about me? Something from Deutschland of course, but what exactly?
